Inside Higher Education reports that several of the top Democratic contenders for the 2020 presidential nomination favor the repeal of a long-standing prohibition on the use of Pell Grants by currently incarcerated students. From Inside Higher Education: "[Senator Bernie] Sanders, along with Senate Democrats and presidential hopefuls Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris and Michael Bennett, has signed on to co-sponsor the REAL Act, legislation introduced by Brian Schatz, a Hawaii Democrat, to reinstate Pell Grants for incarcerated students." A notable exception to this list is former Vice President Joe Biden (D-DE), the current front-runner for the Democratic nomination, who has not yet commented on the topic.
