Federal Work Study to Fund Private-Sector Jobs; ED to Extend Second-Chance Pell

Andrew Kreighbaum of Inside Higher Education reports that yesterday, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has announced a forthcoming experimental program that will enable federal work study dollars to fund student employment in private-sector jobs. Kreighbaum writes: "The Trump administration’s experiment doesn’t address funding allocations for work-study; that would require action from Congress. Instead, it would focus on helping colleges match job opportunities with students’ career goals, in large part by promoting more employment in the private sector."

DeVos also announced yesterday an expansion on the experimental "Second-Chance Pell" program, which provides Pell Grant financial aid to some incarcerated students, Inside Higher Education reports.
