Inside Higher Education is reporting on a recent ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit that National Labor Relations Board rules regarding unionization do not apply to religiously affiliated institutions, and therefore an adjunct faculty union would not be permitted to form at Duquesne University (a Roman Catholic institution). From Inside Higher Education: "If upheld, the ruling would effectively kill a union drive at the Pittsburgh university... The majority (of judges on the appeals court) framed the issue as one of religious rights. The dissenting judge saw the issue as primarily about the rights of adjuncts."
