Inside Higher Education reports this morning that beginning today, "colleges must tell the U.S. Department of Education if they’re being sued in connection with the federal student loan program." This requirement is part of the Borrower Defense Rule issued by the Obama administration in 2016. The Trump administration's Department of Education is expected to issue a new Borrower Defense Rule in the near future; however, in the meantime, the "department must carry out provisions of the 2016 Obama rule," as reported by Inside Higher Education's Andrew Kreighbaum.
