Inside Higher Education reports that the accrediting organization Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), which accredited the now-defunct ITT Tech and Corinthian Colleges, announced yesterday "that the organization faces losses of $2.1 million this year, after the closure of a chain of member colleges and unexpected legal fees." ACICS had lost federal recognition under the Obama administration and then had it returned in 2018. Inside Higher Education also reports that a class action lawsuit has been filed against the Secretary and Department of Education due to the department's restoration of federal recognition for ACICS.
